Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 large bell pepper diced
  • 1 large carrot peeled and diced
  • ½ large onion diced
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Burger buns

Instructions

  • Warm the olive oil in a large, non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the ground chicken and cook until no pink remains.
  • Move the chicken to the side of the skillet, and add the chopped onion, bell peppers, and carrots. Sauté until soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir the minced garlic, onion flakes, paprika, yellow mustard powder, salt, and pepper into the chicken and veggies. Mix until well combined.
  • Add the ketchup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar to the skillet and stir well.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Serve ground chicken sloppy joes over toasted brioche buns, and enjoy!

Notes

  • A large skillet with deep sides is best. I like to use my cast-iron Dutch oven or cast-iron casserole dish.
  • Serve Ground Chicken Sloppy Joes with crunchy sides for the best meal! Balance out the soft, saucy main dish with a crisp, crunchy-textured side.
  • If you're making the sauce ahead of time, store it separately from the buns to prevent the buns from becoming wet.
  • Let leftovers cool to room temperature, then transfer them to a glass, airtight container. Leftovers will stay fresh for up to 4 days.
